SAT Test Prep
SAT Prep Tutoring with Bettie Wailes
Bettie Wailes, owner of Wise Owl Tutoring, offers one-on-one SAT prep tutoring, as well as an 8-week SAT Prep class. Bettie's students often see her on test day--taking the SAT! Bettie takes the SAT so that she can stay up-to-date with test material and testing conditions. She believes taking the actual test provides her with firsthand experience that she can use to help her students. Click here to read what other students have said about preparing for the SAT with Bettie, or read Wise Owl's blog for some of Bettie's SAT test-day words of wisdom.
One-on-One SAT Prep Tutoring
Bettie works individually with students to prepare for the SAT. Bettie teaches her students the necessary strategy and concepts needed to do well on the test, as well as important test content. Students who schedule one-on-one time with Bettie should bring their previous PSAT or SAT scores. If a lot of time has passed since the student last took the test, or if the student has simply never taken the test before, we can proctor a full-length practice SAT test in our office in order to attain a baseline score. To set up one-on-one tutoring with Bettie, give us a call: 407-678-4945.
One-on-One Tutoring with Bettie = $40 per hour
Full-length SAT Practice Test (including score report) = $35
8-Week SAT Prep Class
For students who believe they will benefit more from a classroom setting, Bettie also offers the 8-Week Class. Like one-on-one tutoring, the class covers strategy and material relevant to the three areas of the test: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing.
We do our best to schedule classes so that they end just in time for an SAT date. Click here for class dates and information about the SAT Prep Class.
About the SAT
The SAT is a college-admissions test produced by the College Board. The SAT assesses the student’s ability in three areas: reading, writing, and math. The critical reading section includes sentence completions and passage-based questions. The critical reading section is also very vocabulary-intensive, so we recommend students start studying vocabulary as soon as possible. The math section includes questions on arithmetic operations, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. The writing section includes a short essay and multiple-choice questions on identifying errors and improving grammar and usage.
Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year. Some students decide to prepare for the test earlier than junior year; however, we like to remind these younger students to not get discouraged if the test seems hard, because it covers material they probably haven't learned yet.
How to Register for the SAT
Visit The College Board for online registration. To register by mail, you will need to request an application from your school counselor. Registration for the SAT = $45, and late registration = $68.
